The bow styles are listed in ascending order. Every bow is defined by all of its features. If one or several of the features do not match the intended style, the bow shall be classified as the next higher style. There, too, will again be a complete bow check. The correct style is found, if all characteristics are met.

SB - Selfbow
PB - Primitive Bow
AFc - American Flatbow classic
AFm - American Flatbow modern
RBc - Reflex Bow classic
RBm - Reflex Bow modern
TRB - Traditional Recurve Bow
BHR - Bowhunter Recurve
This applies to all bow styles:
String:
  • The string may consist of any material.

  • Only one (1) fixed nocking point which can be marked by one or two clamping rings.

Arrows:
  • Only bullet and field tips are allowed.

  • The arrowhead should not be wider (in diameter) at any point than at the shaft seat.

  • To decelerate the arrow quickly, the diameter of the arrowhead should have a reduction in its diameter to zero on a length no more than 5 cm.

  • The arrowhead shall not have longitudinal edges.

  • Any arrow head weight is allowed.

  • Nocks may be made of any material.

  • They must have the same length, fletching and points regardless of color.


Prohibited in any bow style:
  • All bows must be free of any markings on the riser, the limbs and the string that can be used for aiming. Exempted from this rule is the natural grain of the wood.

  • Face and string walking.

  • Drawing aids are not permitted. This includes markings and colorings on the arrows which are located in the front third of the shaft.

  • Release aids are not permitted.

  • Leveling instruments are not permitted.

  • Rangefinders, binoculars and other aiming tools or taking notes thereof are not permitted.

  • The draw weight of the bow may not be altered during competition.
Description of bowsytles
SELFBOW (SB)
A selfbow is a bow made of one grown piece of wood.

Permitted:
  • Two pieces of wood spliced together within the handle exception).

  • Leather grips and windings on the grip, as long as they cannot be used as an arrow rest.

  • Nocks made from horn or any other natural material at the bow tips.

  • Wood or other natural material added to the grip.


Prohibited:
  • A sight window.

  • An arrow rest or shelf.

  • Any kind of sinew reinforcement (Backing).

  • Edges or steps measuring more than 3 mm at any point of the grip or 5 cm above it, since it could be used as an arrow rest (validation measurement by a caliper).

  • Laminated wood. For the wood to be visible for inspection, the bow must not be covered with opaque paint.<

  • Bow quiver.


Arrows:
  • Made from wood or bamboo with natural fletching.


Schießstil:
  • Only mediterranean style over the back of the hand.

PRIMITIV BOW (PB)
A longbow, recurve bow or flatbow made of wood or any other natural material without any synthetic fibre.

Permitted:
  • Natural material such as horn or sinew.

  • Laminates of natural materials.

  • The grip and tips may be reinforced by natural mate


Prohibited:
  • Arrow rest or a shelf.

  • Sight window.

  • Edges or steps measuring more than 3 mm at any point of the grip or 5 cm above it, since it could be used as an arrow rest (validation measurement by a caliper).

  • Bow quiver.


Arrows:
  • Made from wood or bamboo with natural fletching.


Shooting style:
  • Only mediterranean style over the back of the hand.


AMERICAN FLATBOW classic (AFc)
A bow of any material, which can be either a one piece bow or a multiple piece bow. Strung, the string does not touch the limbs.

Permitted:
  • Arrow shelf.

  • Bow quiver.


Prohibited:
  • An arrow shelf which exceeds the center of the bow.

  • The sight window shall not be cut parallel to the bow longitudinal axis.

  • The bow quiver shall not be visible through the sight window.


Shooting style:
  • Only mediterranean release.

  • If a bow quiver is used, the scoring arrows shall be taken only from the bow quiver.


Arrow:
  • Made from wood or bamboo with natural fletching.

AMERICAN FLATBOW modern (AFm)
Like Longbow but all material for arrows are allowed.
A bow of any material, which can be either an one piece bow or a multiple pieces bow. Tensioned, the string does not touch the limbs.

Permitted:
  • Arrow shelf.

  • Bow quiver.


Prohibited:
  • An arrow shelf which exceeds the center of the bow.

  • The sight window shall not be cut parallel to the bow longitudinal axis.

  • The bow quiver shall not be visible through the sight window.


Shooting style:
  • Only mediterranean release.

  • If a bow quiver is used, the scoring arrows shall be taken only from the bow quiver.


Arrows:
  • Made from any material with natural fletching.

REFLEX BOW classic (RBc)
A recurve bow made from wood or other natural material such as horn or sinew without any synthetic fibre.

Prohibited:
  • Sight window.

  • Arrow shelf.


Shooting style:
  • Only mediterranean style over the back of the hand

  • or thumb release.


Arrows:
  • Made from wood or bamboo with natural fletching.

REFLEXBOW modern (RBm)
Same as Refeflex bow (RB), only more materials for bows and any material for arrows are allowed:
A recurve bow made from wood or other natural material such as horn or sinew with or without any synthetic fibre.

Prohibited:
  • Sight window.

  • Arrow shelf.


Shooting style:
  • Only mediterranean style over the back of the hand

  • or thumb release.


Arrows:
  • All materials with natural fletching.

TRADITIONAL RECURVE BOW (TRB)
A recurve bow made from wood.

Permitted:
  • A bow which can be either a one piece bow or a multiple piece bow (take down).

  • Take down: All parts, particularly the limb cores shall be made from wood.

  • Laminations made from fibre glass or carbon.

  • A sight window which exceeds the center of the bow.

  • The sight window can be cut parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bow

  • Arrow shelf.

  • Bow quiver on the opposite side from the sight window.


Prohibited:
  • Additional arrow rest.

  • Stabilizer.

  • Additional weight.

  • The bow quiver shall not be seen through the sight window.


Arrows:
  • Made from any material.

  • Only natural fletching.


Shooting style:
  • Only mediterranean release or Three under. The grip may not be changed during competition.

  • If a bow quiver is used, the scoring arrows shall be taken only from the bow quiver.

BOWHUNTER RECURVE (BHR)
A recurve bow made from any material.

Permitted:
  • A bow which can be either a one piece bow or a multiple piece bow (take down).

  • A window which exceed the center of the bow.

  • An Arrow rest

  • Bow quiver at the opposite side as the sight window.

  • The sight window can run parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bow.

  • A straight stabilizer, also with coupling appliance, at a maximum length of 30,5 cm measured from the back of the riser.

  • The threaded insert on the riser is part of the stabilizer and is added to the length.


Prohibited:
  • Forked Stabilizer.

  • Counterweight.

  • Changing the poundage of the bow during competition.


Arrows:
  • Any material.


Shooting style:
  • Only mediterranean release or Three under. The grip may not be changed during competition.

  • If a bow quiver is used, the scoring arrows shall be taken only from the bow quiver.
